May 25, 2009-The Totowa First Aid Squad has applied for funding through FEMA's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. This year, approcimatey $565 million dollars will be awarded to fire dpeartments and non-affiliated EMS organizaions across the country. The Squad is in desperate need of new stretchers and stair-chairs. Our current equipment is well passed its usable service life and in desperate need of an upgrade. They are becomming unsafe, and expose our members to injury through manual lifting and awkward movement. Puchasing new cots and chairs will cost almost $30,000. We hope that we will be lucky enough to be chosen for a grant award this year so that we can upgrade these critical pieces of equipment. For more information on AFG, visit
